If you have a renewal notice for the current, or the next two months, you can register online via Motor Vehicle Registration Renewal. You may also visit one of our tax office locations (listed to the right of this page). You can mail your renewal notice, proof of insurance and check to our main office.
Please add $1.00 to the registration fee and send it to:

WHAT IS THE STATE PENALTY FOR LATE VEHICLE REGISTRATION?
State law stipulates that if you received a citation for expired registration, there is a 20% penalty added to your registration fee.
I'VE LOST MY CURRENT RENEWAL STICKER. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Bring in your plate or VIN number to get a replacement sticker for $7.00
WHAT DO I DO WITH THE RENEWAL NOTICE I RECEIVED FOR A VEHICLE THAT I NO LONGER OWN?
Obtain a Transfer Notation Form (VTR-346) from the Texas Department of Transportation web site to fill out and mail to the address on the form. This will relieve you of responsibility for the vehicle and flag the official record for the vehicle with the remark vehicle transferred.
HOW DO I REGISTER A VEHICLE THAT BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE?
You will need the following:
- The title or a power of attorney referencing the vehicle, authorized person, and whether a ticket for expired registration has been received.
- Photocopy of the titled owner's driver's license.
- Proof of current liability insurance meeting Texas coverage requirements. ($20,000-$40,000-$15,000)
- Cash or check for the registration fee.
IF I REGISTER MY CAR, WILL I GET ARRESTED IF THERE'S A WARRANT OUT FOR ME?
No. The Tax Office is not a law enforcement agency.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR AN ADDRESS CHANGE TO BE PROCESSED?
Address changes are done through the Texas Online and will normally appear within 48 hours.
WHERE DO I REGISTER NOW THAT I NO LONGER LIVE IN WALLER COUNTY?
You must register at the County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office where you now reside.
MUST I GET NEW PLATES WHEN MY OLD ONES ARE FINE?
Yes. New plates are mandatory if your plates are 7 years old. After 6 years the plates lose their safety reflective qualities.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TRANSFER A TITLE?

I CAN'T FIND MY TITLE. HOW DO I APPLY FOR ANOTHER?
Go to the Texas Department of Transportation website for Form VTR-34 and details, or you may pick the form up from our office.
HOW DO I CORRECT AN ERROR IN A TITLE?
To correct an error on a title is complicated. Please e-mail t.schovajsa@wallercounty.us or call (979) 826-7620.
MY NEW CAR DOESN'T HAVE A TITLE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
This is a complex situation. Please call (979) 826-7620 during business hours.
HOW DO I TRANSFER A TITLE OF A VEHICLE THAT BELONGED TO SOMEONE NOW DECEASED?
If the deceased left a will and the will was probated, you'll need certified copies of the Will and Muniment of Title or Letters of Testamentary from a Probate Court. The person appointed as executor will have to execute the back of the title and the Application for Title form 130-U. If no will was left, and no probate was done, you'll need to obtain an Affidavit of Heir ship form VTR-262, signed by all heirs and notarized.
HOW DO I TRANSFER A TITLE ON A VEHICLE NOW THAT I'M DIVORCED?

I HAVE PAID OFF MY VEHICLE. HOW DO I GET A NEW TITLE?
To get a title with no lien showing in the computer and on the title you must obtain:
- The Original Texas Certificate of Title, or a certified copy of the original showing that the lien has been released and the date on the front of the title.
- Form 130-U (Application for Texas Certificate of Title).
- $33.00 Title fee.
Mail all of these or bring them to one of our tax office locations and we will help you.
DOES THE TITLE HAVE TO BE NOTARIZED?
No.
CAN I GIVE MY VEHICLE TO SOMEONE?
Yes you may give your vehicle to a parent/step parent, grandchild, guardian, child/step child, sibling, grandparent, or a decedents's estate.
You will need the title, 130U and the Affidavit of Motor Vehicle Gift Transfer form.
You will have a $10.00 gift tax, a $33.00 title fee, and a registration fee if needed or a $2.50 transfer fee.

HANDICAP REGISTRATION
You must have an original written prescription indicating the nature of the disability as being mobility or non-mobility, temporary or permanent from a Texas licensed physician, or you can request Form VTR-214 from the Texas Department of Transportation. Complete and sign the top portion of this form including the TX driver's license number or TX ID Card number of the disabled person. If the disabled person does not have one, then the TX driver's license number of the person doing most of the transporting is acceptable.
The back portion of Form VTR-214 must be filled out, signed by a TX licensed physician and notarized. Take this or mail this with the fee to one of our tax office locations. You may get 1 placard and 1 set of plates, or 2 placards and no plates. Placards are $5.00 for temp and no cost for permanent; plates are $1.30 each. Farm Plates
Application (Form 52A) for Farm Trailer / Semitrailer, Farm Truck, or Farm Truck Tractor License Plates on the State DMV web site.
Personalized Plates

New personalized plates
Personalized plates are handled directly through the state. Please go to the Texas Department of Transportation Website for details.
Transfer personalized plates to a new vehicle
